Chef Jason Santos Returns to Gordon Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen

Eleven years after his debut on the Emmy-nominated culinary competition show Hell’s Kitchen, Boston chef Jason Santos is back in the game. We caught up with him to discuss his new role, Gordon Ramsay, and 2021.

Describe your new role.

I am the sous chef for the Blue Team in the upcoming Season 19. My role is to work with the Blue Team and help them hone their cooking skills and fix mistakes that they make. I monitor the Blue Kitchen, work with the team, and alert Chef Ramsay of any issues.

What was it like competing on the show?

It was 11 years ago, and it feels like a lifetime has passed. It was super intense and I will never forget that, but it certainly helped my career—as well as forced me to have blue hair for life. It feels nice to be on the other side this time around.

How was working with Chef Gordon Ramsay?

He is super inspiring, intense, and a really good teacher. He makes you want to work hard, and anything less than perfection is not an option.

Are there any moments you are looking forward to watching?

I am honestly just looking forward to watching me plate his food with him next to me—as crazy as it sounds. It was the experience of a lifetime.

Anything we should look forward to in the new year?

I am really excited about the new Buttermilk & Bourbon that we are opening this summer at Arsenal Yards in Watertown. It will be the second location and will have a huge patio.
